The Steering Committee of HOPOS, in order to
clarify the choice of San Francisco (and more to the point, the United
States) as the location for our forthcoming biennial meeting, has issued the
following statement: HOPOS, in choosing venues for its biennial meetings, should not be understood as endorsing any past, present, or future policies of the host countries or their political sub-units. Meeting sites are chosen by vote of the HOPOS Steering Committee strictly on the basis of the quality of the proposals submitted by the prospective local organizing committees. As HOPOS is an international organization, the Steering Committee invites proposals from around the world and considers them all equally. It is in this same international spirit that HOPOS invites its members and friends from around the world to its 2004 meeting in San Francisco. --HOPOS Steering Committee, June 8, 2003 |
